Breathe, thou born of lilies and fresh spearmint leaves
For what have you to fear from the world?
Your diamonds are forever smile encased by ruby slipper lips
Causes a hat to tip,
A step to falter,
Eyes to stray.
They grovel like dogs for a crumb from your table
Yet you simmer and pine, "Love won't ever be mine,"
While you walk down the street, eyes averted modestly
To your clicking-clack shoes and your purple spring coat
Your star-sparkle eyes are a gift that they seek
To devour;
They tip a hat, flourish a cane,
Hoping for a glimpse, just one glimpse
Of a favoring smile.
So I ask you again… what have you to fear from the world?
For those of you wondering "What the heck does this mean?"... this is what I got out of it:

The Hat Tip Girl is a generic metaphor for all the girls out there (I've known many), that have everything, only they won't allow themselves to see it. Instead, they spend their days pining away after a "perfect prince", while missing out on the few admirable suitors that might pass their way, giving up a life of simple happiness in the hopes that "he is really out there somewhere".

However, the question "What have you to fear from the world?" is also important, because the hidden warning behind those words is that most of the time, men are not interested in your dreams of forever.

Anyways, I like how it turned out. Interpret it how you wish.

Interesting. I think I see what you're getting at. And here's a secret: Men can feel just this way too. (I did for years.)
Every line but one fit smoothly - but this one: Your diamonds are forever smile encased by ruby slipper lips I'm not sure what to do about it though. The image of sparkling teeth and red lipstick comes to mind, but short of "forever a smile", I wouldn't know how best to present it.

Well spoken, filled with strong imagery.
